Basic Sewing Curriculum/Classes

For our students that want to focus solely on learning to sew on machines, learn to hand sew, and learn how to read and use patterns. This program also includes five levels of instruction. 

Fashion & Design Curriculum/Classes

Our fashion, design, and sewing programs focus on providing the tools for creation and execution. We offer classes and workshops to youth-adults to explore and provide the skills to design and sew.

This program includes classes beginning with parent and child experiences and graduating through five levels..

Pants Sloper Drafting & Fitting

CLASS DESCRIPTION & DETAILS

1. Introduction to the pants sketching, construction, design and fit.   
2. Drafting Pattern for Pants Sloper: Learn to create a basic pants sloper for both male and female bodies.
3. Customizing Sloper: Adjust the sloper to your desired size and shape for a personalized fit.
4. Fitting Basic Sloper Pants: Fit the basic sloper and address any necessary corrections to ensure a perfect fit.

Minimum/ Maximum Enrollment:  4-7 students
Requirements:  Basic sewing skills are necessary as sewing assignments will be given.
Materials Needed:  Pins, Pattern Paper 1.5 yards; Scotch Tape;  2” wide clear ruler;  Hip Curve; Tracing Wheel; Pencil, Eraser; Paper Scissors; Pad to take notes. Test fabric  will be provided during the 1st session.

Additional Information:

  • Free 15-minute orientation over the phone with the instructor.
  • In case the class is canceled, it will be rescheduled.
  • No refunds for missed classes, but partial recordings of the workshop will be provided.

Adult Basic Beginner Sewing & Alterations / Levels 1 – 3

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Learn basic sewing and alterations so your clothes fit and flatter in easy-to-follow steps. You’ll learn pinning and sewing a straight stitch and essential  alterations like how to slim, shorten, hem, and taper shirts, dresses, and bottoms. We will provide sewing machines, scissors, ironing tables/boards, access to steamers, etc.

  • You will be responsible for purchasing fabric, notions, and if applicable, a pattern for your project.
  • Please bring 4 yards of woven fabric, matching thread, and elastic or embellishments if required.
  • Please wash your fabric prior to bringing it to class.
  • You may make up one missed class per session. Please notify your instructor if you will miss class and what day you would like to attend a makeup session.

Adult Sewing Class

CLASS DESCRIPTION

 

I realize Spring Break occurs during this session. You can miss and make two classes during the session by attending one of the other class sessions during that time period. Most of the sewers that responded to this email are interested in sewing basics, alterations, and small projects. We will learn the first and 2nd skills through small project work. Each class will have between 6-8 students. Cost per session is $240. 
 
If we do not have a minimum of 4 students per class then we will cancel the session. 
Classes will be held at our Factory Fashion location at Stanley Marketplace. We will provide sewing machines, scissors, ironing tables/boards, access to steamers, etc. 
 
You will be responsible for purchasing fabric, notions, and if applicable, a pattern for your project. You do not need to bring these items to class on the first day as it is an introduction and your instructor will guide you as to what you should bring.

Adult Draping

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Classes will be held at our Factory Fashion location at Stanley Marketplace. We will provide sewing machines, scissors, ironing tables/boards, access to steamers, etc. 

You will be responsible for purchasing fabric, notions, and if applicable, a pattern for your project.

Pattern Making

CLASS DESCRIPTION

  • This class will focus on creating a basic sloper for top manipulations.
  • Students will learn to create and manipulate top patterns, how to turn and move darts, turning darts into gathers, and adjusting and taking away darts. 
  • Requirements: Basic familiarity with commercial patterns and basic to intermediate sewing skills.
  • Please bring colored pencils and erasers to class.
  • Pattern paper and poster board will be provided.

Corset Making

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Students learn the rare and fine art of fashion corset making. This class explores the different facets of making a corset, such as spiral boning, boning placements, eyelets, tipped lacings, bias binding techniques, bias making tools, and couture style hand finishing techniques.

Sewing machines and tools provided. Students will be required to provide fabric and notions.

Cosplay – Creating EVA Foam Armor

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Students will learn to create basic cosplay armor out of Eva Foam. 

Please bring 3 sheets of EVA foam to class — 2 sheets of 10 mm and 1 sheet of 5 mm.

Drag Queen Program

Make your own mark on drag history. Transform into your beautiful best in Factory Fashion’s Drag Tween/Teen Program. You’ll put your fiercest fashions forward on the catwalk after learning upcycle techniques and corset making. And to complete the lewk, you’ll discover the secrets of make-up application, hair stacking, and the proper care and fitting of wigs. Students will enjoy this program’s immersive elements of creation. Programs are available for youth through adults.
